Jerome H Zimmerman

Jerome H. Zimmerman was born on December 22, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY. He has been creating art since 1960, working mainly as a sculptor. Jerome thinks of himself as modeler, and in 1962-63 worked as an assistant to Jason Seley, an early direct metal assemblage artist.

For the last 30 years Jerome's primary choice of material has been steel.  However, he has always been interested in using industrial materials, and during the early 1970s worked mainly in plywood and cast acrylic resin.

Jerome's sculpture is created without any preparatory drawings or models.  His sculpture is non-representational, and explores the tension created between attenuated and compressed forms, utilizing limited points of contact with either the wall and/or the floor.

In his most recent work, Jerome has become interested in investigating how different surfaces can influence the content of his sculptures.  He has always pursued an individualistic direction, not adhering to any current trend.

Jerome now lives with his wife and Coco (ask Jerome) in the village of Margon.

He works in his own studio and can be heard listening to a collection of Jazz greats.

Jerome has exhibited his work internationally, and his sculptures and drawings are in many private collections. He divides his time between New York City and his home/studio in the south of France
