Seb Masse

Born in 1970 in Marseilles, Sebastien Masse lives and works in Montpellier.
He has exhibited throughout France and internationally but always remembers his roots in Montpellier.
Seb studied the history of Art and from this the practise of painting 'became a need'.

His work is contemporary and takes a starting point from daily life, whether it be street life, individuals he sees or even sitting in a cafe or bar.
But this is only the start, the imagination is a powerful tool in the right hands and from this daily life start Seb refreshingly refuses to be tethered to this and mythology, exotic beasts and characters from literature and cinema and even cartoons all add inpiration into the mix.
His media and inspiration allow this imagination to project his thoughts onto media that we can observe, dissect and enjoy.
He is as comfortable with inks as he is acylic resin and he obviously draws heavily from Bacon and Picasso to name two.
His versions of reality and imagination allow his work to be interpreted as real or a composition of almost childlike freedom.
